Make Live Mode Configuration Files

Occasionally you might want to modify or create a new configuration file on how Live Mode, the live video feed is presented to you. Example to change the size of the image from 160x120 to 320x240, or to change the audio input driver.  The appearance of the Live Mode image to the remote user depends on the settings in the LiveToLive.asd files found in c:\program files\site monitor\LiveToLive?.asd.

When starting Web Live Mode with web page commands such as:

The config file number is specified in the command e.g. =1 . This config file number translates into the Encoder loading an asd file named LiveToLive1.asd

Live Mode depends configuration files called LiveToLive1.asd, LiveToLive2.asd .... LiveToLive10.asd, each can contain different video streaming properties. If you change these files strictly adhere to the naming convention above. Note: all other LiveToLive?.asd files you create must be set to have the same Video Port (stream reference, HTTP on Port)  number as used in the LiveToLive1.asd file - all files should use the same video port number.

To create or modify one of these files use Windows Media Encoder Ver 4.1.0. The Encoder was installed with the Video Monitoring Software software.

Before modifying any of the files make a back up copy of  the existing *.asd files.

To Modify an asd file:

Close the Video Monitoring Software program if it is running. Go to taskbar, Start, Programs, Windows Media, Windows Media Encoder, to start the Encoder. (If menu item does not exist , find file NsRex.exe and double click it). From the encoder menu, File, Open, enter c:\program files\site monitor\LiveToLive1.asd , and click open. (If the file does not open go to below Create New File.)

From the menu choose, Encoder, Properties  and modify any of the parameters.

Recommend Settings:

Now test the new settings: select menu View, Preview Video, then Encoder, Start. If the preview windows shows  viable video, then it should be acceptable for Video Monitoring Software program, else go back and re-adjust properties settings until viable video is achieved. Select, Encoder, Stop.

If  testing the settings produce viable video, then save the file, File, Save As, enter c:\program files\site monitor\LiveToLive1.asd.

Exit the encoder, Procedure Finished.

Create New File

To create a new asd file click on File, New and follow the menu prompts, selecting custom settings. Use the recommended settings above. Try to use the recommended video drivers, and MS MPEG-4 V3 codec as settings.

Now test the new settings: select menu View, Preview Video, then Encoder, Start. If the preview windows shows  viable video, then it should be acceptable for Video Monitoring Software program, else not. Select, Encoder, Stop.

You may have to experiment a little to get a configuration file exactly right for your needs.

If  testing the settings produce viable video, then save the file, File, Save As, enter c:\program files\site monitor\LiveToLive1.asd.

Exit the encoder, Procedure Finished.

Note:

When from the web browser, on the Video Monitoring Software: Program Administration page, when one enters the number 1 beside, "Put Program in Live Mode with configuration file number", it tells Video Monitoring Software to load LiveToLive1.asd configuration file. Entering 2 is for LiveToLive2.asd file, and so on.
