How to Setup Remote Access to Video Monitoring Software Program

The following steps are required

  1. Startup and run Video Monitoring Software Web Server program.
  2. Put Video Monitoring Software program in Web Mode.
  3. Log on to Video Monitoring Software program with your web browser.
  4. Execute remote commands to Video Monitoring Software program through your web browser - from your computer or over the internet.

Startup and run Video Monitoring Software Web Server program.

From the Video Monitoring Software main menu, select menu item, Settings, Internet Communications, Start Video Monitoring Software Web Server Now. Result:  Video Monitoring Software Web Server program starts to run. If it is not visible right mouse the black square shaped icon at the bottom of your screen on the taskbar.

From the Video Monitoring Software Web Server main menu, select menu item, Server Start. The status of Video Monitoring Software Web Server should display the word, Listening i.e ready to accept remote requests. If you see an error in the Web Server's window - WINSOCK ERROR--VIEW: Bind error #10048 - that means the port is in use already by one of your other applications - set the Web Server to listen on another non-inuse port like 90. (See Video Monitoring Software Web Server, menu item Help, to customize Video Monitoring Software Web Server to select your preferences.)

Put Video Monitoring Software program in Web Mode

Video Monitoring Software can respond to remote request in Desk Mode as well, but for complete web functionality i.e. allow live feed,  it is best to put Video Monitoring Software into Web Mode. From the Video Monitoring Software main menu, select Mode, place a check mark beside Enable Web Mode, by clicking on it.

Log on to Video Monitoring Software program with your web browser.

On your computer startup your web browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer is best). In your web browser for Address enter one of the following:

http://localhost/Video Monitoring Softwarelogon.htm

http://MyComputerName/Video Monitoring Softwarelogon.htm

where MyComputerName is obtained from right mouse clicking on the My Computer icon on your computer screen, select Properties, Network Identification tab, which will list your computer name.

The click Go on your browser.

Result: a web page called, Video Monitoring Software: Home Page should be returned to your browser.

From the Home Page, enter your password if you have set one in Video Monitoring Software. If not just click on, enter.

Result: a web page called, Video Monitoring Software: Program Administration Page is return.

If  logging on remotely over the internet enter the following into your web browser http://MyComputerIPAddress/Video Monitoring Softwarelogon.htm where MyComputerIPAddress is the IP address of your computer when connected to the internet. When connected to the internet you can obtain that IP address from Video Monitoring Software menu item, Settings, This Computer's IP Address, List Computer's IP Addresses, which will list any currently assigned IP addresses to your computer. If feature, UploadIP has been enabled got to www.fgeng.com with your Video Monitoring Software Remote ID and obtain your computer's IP address.

Execute remote commands to Video Monitoring Software program

From the Video Monitoring Software: Program Administration Page, on your web browser, click on link, Get Number of Frames Saved. Result: you should receive a web page back saying, Video Monitoring Software Program Reporting: Frames Saved=0 or some other value.

You can now execute any of the commands on the Video Monitoring Software Administration Page, provided that the functions have been enabled through Video Monitoring Software program settings - Enable Password, or Video Monitoring Software Web Server settings - Set Server Configuration.

Thats it. Much simpler than Video Monitoring Software Version 1.42 which required installing PWS or IIS for remote web access.
